Specifications or What will XDBCMS do?
XDBCMS has the following features:
- This is a completely web-based system, and therefore requires no installation on end-user PCs.
- Pages are defined using a WYSIWIG (What You See Is What You Get) editor, specially extended to provide table manipulation facilities, alternatively, users can use a raw-html text editor, or a more advanced editor called tinyMCE.
- Authors have complete control over page layout by the use of 'page templates', and definition of standard 'blocks' of html, e.g. heading and footer text, which can be positioned on a web page
- The system can generate websites with little / no knowledge of HTML programming.
- Generated websites are 'static' i.e. require no database and therefore can be run on any server, also, these websites have no dependancies on xdbcms in order to run. Individual pages can be previewed before a whole website is generated
- It is possible to run the XDBCMS system on the same server as the 'publically viewable' website, so that any changes are 'instantly' visible when the pages are re-generated.
- Multiple websites can be handled by XDBCMS, and are all independant (i.e. they are all defined independantly), and the generated websites can be output into different directories.
- The system is multi-user, complete with an advanced group-based security system (use is not mandatory).
- Graphics can be uploaded directly from a client's PC into the website, and categoried with description. When editing a web page, a graphics browser can be called up, and graphics can be added into a web page using drag and drop.
- The system can handle an 'infinite' number of pages, and maintain a hierarchy, which appears as an expanding menu bar within the final web site (alternatively, a javascript 'tree' view can be created on the final website).
- News system, where authors can enter news information and dates where those pages should appear - these are automatically included based upon the date that the website is generated
- Simple install, via web-based installation program.
More features will be added later.
